Amy McConnell bio:
JUNO nominee AMY MCCONNELL has been performing from the age of nine months when she appeared in her first television commercial. Amy continued her childhood career as one of the principals on the TfO TV series “Téléfrançais” and performed in various professional musicals as a child. She went on to win a scholarship to study musical theatre performance at the American Academy of Musical and Dramatic Arts in Manhattan. It was in New York that Amy developed her love of jazz and began the transition from musical theatre performer to jazz singer. Her first album “Stealing Genius,” a duo project with trumpeter William Sperandei, received wide acclaim and was nominated for a JUNO for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year in 2014. Her current release “Accomplice” features jazz arrangements of film and musical theatre songs from the latter half of the 20th century by composers like Legrand, Brel and Lai.
Despite her anglophone name, Amy comes from a francophone background, is fluently bilingual and frequently performs in French. Known for her beautiful voice, impeccable intonation and emotional approach, Amy’s style encompasses jazz, pop and musical theatre.
